The spokesperson for the Power division, Zafaryab Khan, addressed rumors concerning changes in electricity prices, declaring that the federal government will implement the recently announced relief of electricity prices.

In an interview with app, Zafaryab Khan has rejected reports on changes in electricity rates, calling them baseless and contradictory. He added that certain elements deliberately repaired false information on electricity rates and technical details, distorting the facts.

“These reports have distorted the official government’s position and aim to create confusion among the public,” he said.

The spokesman stressed that the announcement of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concerning a reduction in electricity rates is correct and that his implementation will take place as planned.

Zafaryab Khan noted that, in the light of the next summer season, the Prime Minister had asked the immediate action to facilitate the burden of consumers. Following the Prime Minister’s announcement, NEPRA led a public hearing on April 4 to implement the emergency package without delay.

He also confirmed that the federal office has already approved the rescue package, which will apply to all electricity distribution companies across the country.

The spokesperson allocated this relief to months of negotiations, including talks with independent electricity producers (PPI) to reduce prices.

He also said that discussions on tariff categories were not necessary at this stage, because the relief now reaches the public. “The government deserves the merit of this timely intervention,” he concluded.
