The chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, gave the approval of the principle of an electric bus project on the scale of the province which will see 1,500 buses deployed in several cities.
The decision occurred at a high -level meeting of the provincial transport department chaired by the chief minister.
In the first phase, 380 electric buses will be introduced in Lahore and Gujranwala. The process of supplying these buses was ordered to start immediately, with a deadline set for June.
Additional cities such as Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Rahim Yar Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan will be included in the subsequent stadiums of the project.
Maryam Nawaz also ordered managers to present itinerary plans for Faisalabad and Gujranwala, and demanded progress on planning the yellow line of Lahore within 15 days.
A new transport and transport control center has also been approved for Lahore, alongside the creation of charging stations for the electric fleet.
The chief minister stressed that modern public transport is the right of each citizen, not just those of Lahore, expressing his wish for “world -class bus systems in all the major cities of Punjab”.
