
Islamabad: National Authority (NDMA) National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) published a potentially severe weather conditions on Friday which should affect certain parts of Punjab and Islamabad in the next 12 hours.
The meteorological opinion occurred two days after the federal capital and certain parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) were struck by a strong hailstorm, leaving a trace of destruction which included broken car windshields, damaged solar panels and broken trees.
According to the NEOC, a disturbance of the West is likely to cause unstable time in several regions, bringing strong precipitation, thunderstorms, wind storms and isolated hailstorms.
The areas likely to be affected are the region of Polehohar, in particular Islamabad and Rawalpindi, as well as the upper Punjab districts such as Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat and Jhelum. The areas of the Punjab center, including Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Jhang, Khushab, Mianwali, Lahore, Narowal, Sahiwal, Sargodha and Sheikhupura can also experience an important weather activity during this period.
It is planned that heavy rain and strong winds can cause uprooting trees and could cause temporary power outages.
Wind storms and hail can also damage buildings, roofs, vehicles and electric infrastructure. In addition, hailstorms could present serious risks for standing crops, added the meteorological opinion.
The Neoc also warned of a potential rapid increase in water flows and the risk of sudden floods located in rivers and dummies of Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Chitral, Manshra, Khurram, Khyber, Mohmand, Bajaur and Neelum Valley during the meteorological spell from April 18 to 20.
There is also an increased risk of sudden floods in certain parts of the Hazara and Malakand divisions due to moderate to strong precipitation.
The NDMA advised tourists and travelers to remain informed and to check the latest weather updates. People who plan to travel are invited to check the conditions of the road in advance and to avoid unnecessary movements during periods of heavy rain.
Those who live in or visit areas subject to landslides should be cautious and strictly monitor the security instructions issued by local authorities, he added.
