A magnitude of 5.7 earthquakes struck near the northern border of Pakistan on Saturday morning, with tremors felt in several cities, including Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar.

Residents of the affected areas temporarily fled the building as a result of the tremors.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located 53 kilometers south-southwest of Ashkasham, Afghanistan, at 11:47 a.m. local time (0647 GMT), according to the United States Geological Survey. The Temblor is from a depth of 94 kilometers.

Although no significant victim or structural damage was immediately reported, the prolonged tremors – duration of almost 30 seconds according to eyewitnesses – caused a generalized alarm.

In Islamabad, office employees have evacuated high -rise buildings while the furniture was shaking and the ceiling fans were sworn.

In addition to major cities, reports have confirmed that tremors were also experienced in areas such as the lower DIR in the province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Witnesses said residents rushed outside, a lot of reciting religious worms in fear.

In Lahore and the surrounding area, similar scenes took place, people gathering in open spaces after the tremors.
