The driver of an oil tanker was killed, while more than 40 others suffered from burn injuries when the vehicle exploded after caught fire in the Balutchistan disk district on Monday, confirmed the assistant commissioner (DC) Amjad Hussain.
26 people injured by the criticism were transferred to Quetta via an air ambulance provided by the chief minister of Balutchistan, Sarfaraz Bugti, added the assistant commissioner.
According to the police, welding work was carried out on the truck loaded with oil parked in a deposit in Noshki when he suddenly caught fire. In order to prevent a greater disaster, the driver of the truck chased the burning vehicle of the terminal in an open field.
The driver, however, died of his burn injuries on the spot.
Meanwhile, the oil tanker, who had turned into a fireball, exploded, injuring more than 40 people – including a DSP and three other police officers who were present to keep the citizens of the scene away.
A call for tenders was also damaged during the incident.
Citing reports, a spokesperson for the provincial government said that more than 30 people had suffered burns injury during the tragic incident in Noshki.
“The intense fire also damaged a firefighters vehicle,” added the spokesperson. They also said that an emergency had been declared in Quetta hospitals to facilitate the injured.
Calling the “tragic” incident, the spokesman said that investigations were underway to determine the cause of the fire.
