Islamabad: The World Bank approved $ 108 million in additional funding at the Khyber Pakhtunkh Rural Accessibility Project (KPRAP) and the integrated tourism development project of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Kite).

The KPRAP project is worth $ 78 million and the kite project is estimated at $ 30 million. The financial subsidy has been approved to allow two projects to achieve their objectives in improving access to health and education services, markets and jobs, in a way that strengthens resilience to the province’s natural disasters, the World Bank said in a document.

“By rehabilitating critical rural road infrastructures and improving preparation for disasters, the rural accessibility project of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the integrated tourism development project Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are not only access to essential services such as health and education, but also to promote climate, economic resilience and the creation of possibilities for local communities,” Declared Najy Benhassine, Bank-Countan World for Pakist for Pakist.

Additional funding of $ 78 million for KPRAP will focus on the supply of a safe and climatic road infrastructure, improving and rehabilitating rural roads, thus improving access to services, including schools, health establishments and markets. The project also supports safe and affordable transport at school for girls. Overall, around 1.76 million people should benefit from the project.

“This additional funding highlights the World Bank’s commitment to support the development objectives of the province of Pakistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” said Muhammad Bilal Paracha, project manager for the project.

“The project is crucial to improve the lives of the inhabitants of the province, in particular women and girls, by improving (their) access to essential services and economic opportunities.”

The additional funding of $ 30 million for the kite will help improve the province’s tourism sector by completing the rehabilitation of two roads that will improve access to the virgin tourist spots in the nearby province.

It will also support technical assistance and capacity building for the tourism industry and stakeholders in the public sector. Additional funding will support better destination management, heritage conservation and the integration of digital platforms in the tourism industry in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“The Kite project encourages responsible tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in collaboration with stakeholders in the public and private sector,” said Kiran Afzal, project manager for the project.

“This means better roads, improved tourist facilities and other opportunities for local communities to benefit from the growth of the tourism economy. The project will create jobs, will form the local populations and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the country. ”
