UFC veteran and Bellator champion, Ben Askren, is in critical condition after having contracted pneumonia. After several reports that Askren faced an important fear of health due to a staphylococcal infection, a publication on his wife’s facebook, Amy, was shared on social networks.
“You may have heard that my husband Ben crosses something,” wrote Amy Askren in the Facebook post. “He has developed severe pneumonia which occurred suddenly. He is currently in the hospital and unable to respond to anything right now. We welcome all the prayers for healing and for peace. We try to keep life as normal as possible for our children currently and to do our best to support them, so please abstain to chat with them for the moment. ”
The veteran of the UFC Chael Sonnen also briefly discussed the situation On X, displaying: “Ben is alive and prayers are sought. Family who chooses intimacy today. “
Staphylococcal pneumonia can be a serious disease from a staphylococcal infection, although very few details on diagnoses or Askren status are known beyond his wife and sounding messages.
Askren was a champion of season 2 in Bellator before winning the title of Welters weights in 2010. He would continue to defend this title four times before leaving the promotion always undefeated as a professional.
After a passage of seven fights with an FC, Askren was acquired by the UFC in a strange “profession” which saw the UFC send Demetrious Johnson to one in exchange. Askren beat Robbie Lawler before losing fights against Jorge Masvidal and Demian Maia, after which he retired from mixed martial arts.
