Unveiling the budget for the year 2025-26, the Minister of Punjab, Mujtaba Shuja Ur Rehman, announced on Monday a 10% increase in the wages of government employees.

In his budgetary speech at the Punjab Assembly, the Minister of Finance said that employee wages aged 1 to 22 were increased by 10%. It was also decided to increase pensions by 5%, he added.

Earlier in the day, Mujtaba presented the budget of 5,335 billion rupees of Rs 5.335 billion RS.

In a previous statement, the Minister had declared that the budget would reflect the vision of the development of chief minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and will be “adapted to people”.

Before the assembly session, the chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, approved the provincial budget.

“Despite a relatively compressed budget, the ADP (annual development program) increased by 47% from 842 billion to 1240 billion billions of dollars, while the government’s operational expenses increased by only 3%, even after the increase in salary and pensions,” said the main minister of Punjab, Marriyum Aurangzeb, in an X Post.

In another X Post, Aurangzeb said: “Within the framework of the intrepid and reformist leadership of the Minister of Chief, the 2025-26 budget is released from obsolete traditions.”

She said that the 2025-26 budget reflected a historic and strategic realignment of priorities with a historic and highest development allowance of RS1 240 billion with total expenses of 5,335 billion rupees.

The Minister said that the provincial budget was “a zero tax budget, which means that no new tax has been imposed and no tax rates have been reinforced by the roadmap to increase the tax net of the Punjab”.
